The bridge / pilot house

The Bridge or Pilot House is the place where the Sterett was conned. Located here are navigational aids such as a chart table, compasses, navigational radar repeaters and communication equipment. The engine telegraphs for controlling Sterett's 85,000 horsepower engines and her two screws were located just to the port side of the main con where the ship's wheel was located. Just outboard of the enclosed bridge area were the bridge wings where the port and starboard lookouts stood their watches at sea. Two large stuffed chairs were located here for the Captain and Officer of the Deck. Just aft of the bridge was a chart room on the port side and the Captain's sea cabin on the starboard side. CIC Combat Information Center was amidships just aft of the bridge.
