Sterett's wardroom is the place where the officers of the ship took their meals. rarely did any enlisted men see the inside of this space except for the stewards who prepared and served the meals. Official functions for dignitaries and visiting command personnel usually started and ended here. The wardroom table settings were more opulent than those the crew had. There were paintings an the wall, tablecloths on the tables and padding on the chairs. there was a padded couch like seating around the edge. The wardroom had it's own galley and food storage spaces. In the evening movies were shown here. On formal occasions, there was good china and real silverware.
The wardroom was also a place steeped in tradition. The duties of the the junior officers and the rights of the senior officers were strictly enforced. Operation of the wardroom was governed by a rich background of Naval traditions. Wardroom finances were run along the lines of a business with costs divided among all the officers.
Sterett's wardroom was located off the main weather deck amidships and just forward of the quarterdeck. there was and entrance that lead forward into officer's country and one that led aft and down to the crew's mess.
